Bio

Ed began his photographic journey as a child. He loved watching The Undersea World of  Jacques Cousteau. During the summer in gradeschool he took art classes. Following in Jaques footsteps he became a Mechanical Engineer. This opened the door to do some real photography. While performing inspection work he used Nikon cameras supplied by the company to document conditions and highlight potential points of failure. In 1988, he had an opportunity to go to the US Olympic Track and Field Trials at Indiana University. Being a track athlete in HS and still loving to sport and action Ed took this opportunity to invest in a camera system that would allow high quality photos at the trials. He shot 21 rolls of film. By the 1992 trials in New Orleans he had three camera bodies and six lenses.  He shot 80 rolls of film. At the 1996 Olympic trials he photographed several images that were in demand and began selling his images.  At the same time his brothers field group for Golden Retrievers were looking for someone to photograph the dogs performing their test work. Because the fast large lenses required for track and field are the same for four legged creatures that are fast, Ed began doing the events for the group. Many members in the group took advantage of Ed’s eye for capturing the dogs actively pursuing the bird or bringing the prize back to its owner. Ed poured over every magazine available on photography while honing his skills with practicing what the article preached. He formally enrolled and completed the New York Institute of Photography curriculum. This drove him to desire to develop the skills of a portrait photographer.

In 2005, Ed left the corporate world to pursue photography. He knew that the NYI of Photography covered everything but he needed direct expert guidance to complete his journey. To achieve the portrait photographer status Ed took week long seminars with Industry Heavyweights and legends – Monte Zucker and Rolando Gomez. Monte’s Technical approach to get the perfect portrait became Ed’s obsession. Monte allowed the students to send their work to him for advice on what to do and not to do. Ed took advantage of this opportunity and was in correspondence with him up to the time when Monte’s illness took over. Unfortunately, Monte died of cancer in the spring of 2007. Ed became the photographer for a magazine called Broker Agent Magazine which was in 77 cities across the US geared towards the top broker agents in the market for the Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale issues. Ed’s role was to document the story with images of the agents, their staff and their families. He would take high quality professionally lit photos wherever the situation would take him. Very different from the candid images seen in many of the local flare magazines of people at parties. The stories were pieces on the Broker that would ultimately support the magazine and any marketing pieces for the agent. This required the images to be well lit, with the lighting making the subject the star like to featured pieces of a magazine that you would purchase such as Self or Fitness Magazine. You will see many of the testimonials come from these brokers from the magazine. They saw what it took to make them look good and comfortable with the idea that their image  was going to be on the cover and they were not models, actors, or actresses. The cover image was their biggest fear. Many were thrilled with the results. Scan the testimonials for their words.

He was able to achieve this on boats, in construction sites, or in their homes. The magazine suffered from the real estate market collapse and is no longer produced in any of the markets. Ed was able to produce 18 stories with up six page spreads for the magazine.

The type of photography Ed was doing with the magazine has the professional tag of Lifesyle or Environmental photography and that is the basis of Ed’s business model today. He can and will capture your images in a traditional studio setting but the real magic with Ed’s images are when they are taken in the comfort of your home or at a beach that you and your family love to visit.

Ed Bullinger captures the image that represents the moment in its best light. What that means for the client or the subject is that all of the best features will be brought out and any flaws will be minimized. Photography by definition is painting with light and a session with Ed is getting the light just right for you the client.

He has brought tears to parents’ eyes when they see how beautiful and calm their child can be and to know that it is captured permanently for their walls and generations to come. He also has shocked daughters when they see how good their moms can look with slight adjustments in posing and lighting to bring out their best features. Business men and women come to him when they want to have a professional portrait that is natural looking yet has all of the building blocks of a professional portrait and captures their strong side for their marketing pieces. He has helped models complete their portfolio and small businesses present their products.

While approaching every assignment with a technician’s eye, Ed makes telling a story within the parameters of the client’s needs his top priority.
